Surface Pro 2, Microsoft removed the firmware
Following numerous reports received by different users, the firmware of December for the Surface Pro 2 has been removed from Windows Update.
Microsoft has removed from Windows Update the firmware for the Surface Pro 2 released on December 10. A few hours after its availability, several users have reported an inability to install the update. Despite the error displayed during the procedure, the company had assured that the update is installed correctly. In the last hours, however, has increased the number of complaints, so Microsoft chose to remove the new firmware of the tablet.
Last week, a user had published on the Microsoft support forum the first report on the firmware of December for the Surface Pro 2. The installation procedure does not finish properly because Windows 8.1 displays messages such as “Firmware update failed” or” Installation status: Failed, Error details: Code 80070490.” Another user had suggested to disable the Windows Update, rename the database file as dataStoreold.edb and reactivate the service again, but the workaround does not work for everyone.
Earlier this week, Microsoft had announced that what you see is actually a false error. The update should be installed correctly, as users can check it by reading the version in Device Manager. Despite this reassurance, the number of reports has increased, so the company chose to remove the firmware from Windows Update. The new release will be distributed after the holiday season.
These are the changes introduced by the update in December:
- Improved system stability
- Updated drivers for connectivity through WiFi access points
- Improved interaction with Surface Cover
- Improved color fidelity
- Optimized use of the trackpad with two fingers
- Improved sound quality when you connect a device Display Port 1.2
